The Arterie is a collective of likeminded therapists who practice together in a homey Burlington clinic, on the shores of Lake Ontario.
The Arterie is home to 6 full-time private practices & part-time others.
We don’t doubt that clinical excellence in therapy can be delivered via video or phone conference: we do the same in a pinch (à la pandemic).
However, Arterie therapists are the increasingly rare ones who invest in the considerable overhead expense of a well-kept consulting & waiting room, easy parking, and a good location. These are therapists who prioritize the liberating yet focussing context of fully hosting a private sit-down to think / talk / create mental health.
Arterie therapists treasure the riches of being able to take the unseen—the ‘more than words’— into view with creative, experiential, expressive therapy modalities like art therapy, play therapy, internal family systems work, dialogue therapy.
As a team, we learn together. Clients must be able to sense the shared commitment to the art and craft of psychotherapy. In good conversations, both regularly scheduled and stumbled-upon, we maintain the privacy of our clientele, but share our big questions.
The psychology of mindfulness and behaviour feature in professional assessments and treatments, as they must. What is rare and so valuable is that our collective draws together accomplished professionals who implement cognitive and behavioural techniques within the matrix of contemporary psychodynamic theory and relational psychoanalysis. This must read like shop-talk, but you sure want to know that your therapist can talk shop. And we do, at The Arterie, every day.
“Child clients keep me from taking life too seriously, adult clients keep me taking childhood seriously.” ~ Sarah B
The Arterie is home to general practices that are collectively enriched by a diversity of client ages and stages (children, teens, adults), as well as by a diversity of gender identity, and sexual orientation. Cultural diversity amongst Arterie therapists and clienteles is another asset. We maintain the house and the collective to be family friendly. Amongst the private practices in-house are services for couples, families, groups, and classes. The central request, and so the majority of our clientele, comes for longer-term individual psychotherapies, or shorter-term couple therapy.
